Troy Davis ~ did Georgia rush to fast?

I have not been following the Troy Davis’ death row debacle due to the fact I have some faith that he would been granted a retrial. Oh that goes to show how ignorant I could be. Never again.

I think the Board of Parole and Pardon in the state of Georgia has too much power and it is time for a major overhaul in the laws that deals with the the way this Board operates. Honestly I think it should be an elected position because normally the governor has this kind of power but not in Georgia. 5 people lack compassionate.

Yet a crime happened and a police officer is dead. Troy Davis got his death warrant due to his association with the person that many believe is the actually triggerman and then there is the matter of hearsay. I always felt that hearsay was not allowable.

Citizens of the state of Georgia that are against the Death Penalty need to show the same amount of energy and dismay via taking actions. Citizens that are for the Death Penalty need to ask themselves how they would feel if they were in Troy Davis’ shoes. A crime is a crime but when people makes deals and whatnots they will sell their soul to avoid jail time or the lethal injection.

To take action starts with writing to your state representative and senator and put pressure on the Governor to pass the bill.

Right now the Governor has the power to appoint or remove a board member. I has not be successful in finding what are the qualifications to see on the board, but I would be very upset if they are just everyday citizen that does not have a juris doctorate in law or a license to practice law.

I can understand why in this state that is typical a GOP state made the law the way it is. The only way to change this is to change the law so a person on death row has a fair chance especially in a situation where the evidence and hearsay has run amok.

People get mad but they only get mad when it is too late to do anything, furthermore in order to progress forward as a society people need to be active all the time not just when it time to round up the crowd and raise a ruckus and get arrested. Don’t let Troy Davis’ execution be in vain but to be a starting point to change the flawed law to protect innocent people (and mind you there have been a great deal of innocent people doing time for a long time and only to be released due to DNA testing and the advance of modern CSI science.

In closing, there is good and bad. The action of the state does not reflect the average citizens of this state. Racism will always exist in America, but common sense will prevail one day to show that in order to have a fair judicial system all must be judge the same way regardless of their income/social status, and upbringing. An eye for an eye is one thing, but how do you trade a body for a body when the body in question is not 100% guilty?
